A few months ago, my old website (ariaugustine.com) crashed and burned in the dead of night. To my eternal lament, this was not the first time my website had fallen apart, but I had hope that, like many times before, it could be salvaged.
Then, after a series of critical errors, my host accidentally deleted a huge chunk of the site during repairs. Unfortunately, full restoration wasn’t possible, even with my own backups. Because, as it turned out, the plugin I used to back up the site also experienced its own share of critical errors.
I was devastated and, for a moment, contemplated if this was the universe’s way of saying “maybe it’s time to quit the business.” But I love what I do, even if managing my website drives me crazy at times like these. And maybe I’m also a little stubborn, too. Rather than patching things up again, though, I took all of this as a sign that it was time to cut ties with the old site and embrace a full rebrand.
So, what's new at Story Alchemy Editing?
- New Business, New Name: Augustine Editorial is now officially Story Alchemy Editing, and I’ve updated my name to reflect my married one (Ari Augustine → Ari Land). Yes, I know. It took forever.
- Lower Rates Across the Board: I know many writers are navigating tight budgets right now, so I’ve lowered my prices to match this era of economic chaos—without compromising quality. Certain service fees are also open for negotiation, because your story’s needs (and yours) deserve flexibility.
- New Editorial Services: Writing serialized fiction? Working on a multi-book series? Need a slower, gentler editing experience? I’ve introduced specialized services designed with your budget, mental health, and reader hopes in mind.
- Expanded Client Support: My support doesn’t end when I return your edits. Whether it’s weeks or months later, if you have questions or need to talk something through, I’m still here. Select editing services will soon include optional text/call access at no extra cost, plus the option to request Audio Story Notes (your feedback in audiobook form).
- Goodbye, Bluehost! In the next month, I’ll be moving all my websites to a new (and actually reliable) locally based host. I cannot wait to leave this tech nightmare behind.
- A Treasure Trove of Resources: Starting in July, I’ll be releasing a handful of free, downloadable tools, like the Revision Rituals Checklist and In the Flesh, a series of character-building worksheets.
